Breaking News/Updates

First, the OA Ordeal scheduled for this weekend has been postponed due to flooding. The new date is 8/28-30

Second, we will have a Leader’s meeting (ADULT) next Monday, August 17 at 6:30 pm. It will be held at the Leinbach Park shelter that we are using for our first troop meeting the following week. Dan is buying Pizza so let us know if you plan on coming.

This is a very important meeting to 1) Discuss fall meetings 2) Covid Plans 3) Our short term outdoor schedule. Please plan on attending if at all possible

1st Meeting of the School Year + SPL Elections

Troop-

We have had great success with our spring event, summer camp, and our Zipline trip maintaining strict protocols and safeguards. The types of meetings we will have on a regular basis this fall may be varied and are yet to be determined.

However, we feel it is extremely important that we have 1 live meeting before the Court of Honor which will be held MONDAY, AUGUST 31 AT LEINBACH PARK across the street from MTUMC at the shelter. We are not having a cook-out per se , but will have pizza for those that want it. Like at camp, it will be carefully dispensed by masked and gloved servers and will not be touched or breathed upon by those in line. We will take temps upon arrival and will ask everyone to be masked when within 6 feet of each other. Weather permitting, we will hold our meeting out on the grass with seats spaced apart so please bring a camp chair with you.

Come at 6:15 if you need to turn in any advancement, need a Scoutmaster Conference or a Board of Review. We will start serving Pizza at 6:30 and will start the meeting as soon as Reviews are completed.

Our candidates for SPL will be allowed to speak briefly and we will elect our 20/21 SPL. We will also talk a bit about the plan for this fall.

Please respond to davidhelms@weicherttriad.com and state your name and yes or no to let me know if you are coming. If it’s a family of multiples, give me the number also. Thanks.

Wearn Eagle Project

 Troop-

Jonathan Wearn is doing his Eagle Scout project and needs volunteers on Saturday, August 22 at 9 AM. We will do three hours of work during this time and it counts for service hours.

Work will include placing three (3) benches already built plus building a platform for four trash cans. Please bring a pair of work gloves and a rake to do light clean up if time permits.

Location for work is Saint Paul’s Cemetery in Kernersville. The address is 711 South Main Street, Kernersville NC 27284. It is between Cagney’s Restaurant and The Stafford House. Look for the balloons at the driveway into the cemetery. You can park along this driveway.

Please email Jonathan at jonathanwearneagle@gmail.com to let him know if you can come so he can plan for snacks, and lunch will be provided at the end of work.
Due to Covid-19, please wear a mask.

Zipline Trip Is On

Troop-

I’m delighted to announce our zipline trip is able to proceed. I’ll get to the details in a moment. First I wanted to let you know our back to school picnic is canceled. It is extremely important to hold 1 meeting before our COH in September. Stay tuned for details on that. If you wish to run for SPL, you must let me know immediately.

Zipline details:

Departure time TBD. A signed health waiver (like we used for CRK) will be required. We will take your temp before your ride can leave. We will bunk 1 person per tent unless we have written permission from the parents of all parties sharing. Family members sharing are exempt. Masks will be worn on troop transportation, while ziplining, and anytime social distancing isn’t possible. Please bring a pair of sturdy work gloves for ziplining.

Everyone who attended summer camp can follow these protocols easily. Meals will be cooked centrally and served on disposable dinnerware by masked and gloved personnel.

We have the required leadership but would really prefer 2 more adults. PLEASE consider attending if you are able. This is an easy trip and lots of fun.

Next Troop Trip

Troop-

We are living in interesting times. Scouting is severely diminished by the absence of our monthly camping trips. Fortunately, after a very successful week at summer camp, I am highly confident that we can hold camping trips safely. We will have to add some protocols but a large percentage of the boys are now accustomed to these actions.

Having said that, we have a zipline trip scheduled for August 8. It overlaps with NYLT and is the week prior to 1st Ordeal (which I highly recommend to all our new OA candidates). So, before we confirm this trip, I need a headcount of those interested. PLEASE EMAIL (ASAP) davidhelms@weichert.com if you wish to attend. thanks for your prompt attention to this matter.

Stay tuned for updates on our scheduled picnic, SPL election and our September Court of Honor.

Instructions for camp departure

Hello Troop-

I am extremely excited about summer camp coming up as I know you are. Following are some very important instructions.

We are leaving from MTUMC parking lot NOT MT Tabor school as in the past. Arrive Sunday, 7/19 at 11 am. Drive in AT THE STOPLIGHT please, then follow the instructions of those directing traffic

The order of business is as follows (Do not deviate for any reason):

  1. drive to temperature check station first
  2. drive to trailer and QUICKLY drop your gear
  3. drive to parking on WEST side of stoplight entrance
  4. park and walk to colonnade next to office. There will be check-in tables covering several topics. Once you leave your car, please wear a mask. We can argue the merits later, but we need to be uber cautious during this segment of check-in.
  5. Once the scout is fully checked in, we will ask the parents to leave. We’ve enjoyed waving goodbye for many years but simply can’t do it this year.
  6. Once the scout is checked in, he will move over across the courtyard to the second colonnade. Please, no family in this area.
  7. We have no way to social distance on the buses, so we will all have to be masked on the bus also.

All this is a major inconvenience but we appreciate your patience and indulgence.

As usual, we will serve individually wrapped snacks at taps every night so please do not bring food from home. BRING A BAG LUNCH SUNDAY. The first meal is supper. There are additional snacks to be purchased at the Trading Post should you wish to send a small amount of $ with your son.

The summer camp packing list is hung on this website. Please check it and pack accordingly. Remember, there is no visitation this year so please do not come up to camp. They will not let you in. Also, no early departures please. ALL SCOUTS ARE ASKED TO BRING AT LEAST 2 MASKS TO CAMP. DON’T FORGET YOUR WATER BOTTLE.

We travel in CLASS A UNIFORM INCLUDING NECKERCHIEF. Do not bring open toed shoes to camp.

WE WILL HAVE A BLAST. SEE YOU SUNDAY!

Awards Pickup

Congratulations on so many of you receiving awards at our virtual court of honor this month. There will be an awards pickup this Saturday, June 27 from 10:00 am- 12:00 pm. This is also a GREAT opportunity to bring by camp payments and buy troop Tshirts and other items in preparation for camp.

ALSO, as a surprise to us, Camp Raven Knob has requested we send our health forms in early for a pre-check. Many of you were told a due-date of 7/10. If you still require that, ok. But, it you are in a position to submit your healthform early (like this Saturday), please do so.

Location: Children’s Building Car Port (Left side of church building).

Link and Info for Court of Honor Tonight

Troop-

Our very first (and I hope- only) Virtual Court of Honor is tonight at 7 pm. Please log on 5-10 minutes prior so we can start on time. It will be quite interesting and will move quickly.

Immediately following the COH is our summer camp meeting. We will go over what is different this year first so EVERYONE planning on attending or considering attending should stay for that part. Then we will roll into gear and what to expect. Anyone who has gone to camp before with 934 can roll off at that time if desired.
