Show and Sells Still Available This Weekend

Hello, Troop 934 Parents and Scouts!

At this past week’s meeting we raffled off hundreds of dollars’ worth of gear – from Camel Back Rim Runner Pack to Ultra Light Collapsing Camp Chair – and recognized first online sellers.  And the weekend prior we executed our first storefront sale of the season!  See below for information on the next raffle and how to get your name into the vacant spots on the storefront signup link:

Door to Door Sales:

– I’d like to stress the importance of this traditional sales method alongside the others; Selling to neighbors, teachers and family is highly effective because of the relationships involved; $100 in new weekly sales gets your scout into Monday’s next raffle!

– Bring both sheets Monday.  I pull reports for their online sales, so don’t record those on the paper sheets.

– Remember that you can take cash now or later, but parents are responsible for bundling cash then presenting a check payable to Troop 934

– Popcorn & Peanuts will be provided mid-November, at which point scouts then deliver to the door-to-door buyers

– Parents, please do not log door to door nor storefront sales into the popcorn portal

Storefront Sale Update:

– This weekend’s storefront sale at Ace Hardware still has room – as do other dates later this month!

– The signup link is https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090E4DADA828A5FA7-storefront#/

– Which is also found on the popcorn page from the troop website https://troop934.org

– I deliver the popcorn inventory and “sales kit” to the adult volunteers … all you need to do is show up!

Online Sales:

– Congratulations to Daniel Ertl, Daniel Honeycutt, Elliott Love, Adam Scott & Nash Williams for joining the “Online Sales Club!”

– Special mention for Nash who has made SIX such online sales – ask his family how easy it is!

– Log into campmasters.org then click “Promote Yourself Online” for easy instructions

– These sales get direct-shipped to the buyer with no follow-up required by scouts; I track the sales towards your raffle participation

Thank you all for your continued support … need a big push from all scouts – RAVENS to EAGLES on door to door & online sales!

Popcorn Information

Dear Troop 934 Parents and Scouts –

Thank you for your time discussing our Popcorn & Peanut fundraiser during the Court of Honor.

It was great seeing 11 scouts hit the deck running, generating $1200 in Week 1 total sales, and awarding a crisp $100 bill to Adam Scott who won our first raffle.

Each of the next five (5) Mondays scouts will need to bring:

–  Updated, legible popcorn & peanut sales sheets

–  Check(s) payable to Troop 934 (including one from you representing cash from take sales)

–  Note: parents please do not log door to door nor storefront sales into the popcorn portal (I take care of this for you)

How to qualify to enter the weekly raffles?

– Every week your scout sells an incremental $100 or more over the last week, his name goes into the drawing

– I pull reports for their online sales so please do not record those on their paper sales sheets

The awarding of gift cards for every scout making at least one online sale was moved to Monday 9/16 to all more scouts to participate

–  Each of you was sent a login email from “Camp Masters Customer Service” for easy portal access.  If you don’t have this, please visit the following link and register your scout, taking care to align him to TROOP 934: Camp Masters

–  Once inside, click “Promote Yourself Online,” then enter an email address to which Camp Masters will send his personal popcorn page.

–  It also gives you the option to copy his personal popcorn page address for distribution on social media.

Store front sales will be running Saturdays and Sundays during September

–  These are “Class A Uniform” events where the scouts do the approaching & selling

–  Parents serve as cashbox handlers and safety advisors

–  Total daily sales are divided equally among the scouts working that day

THANK YOU for supporting the Troop and your scout’s fulfillment of the $700 sales commitement … and beyond!

Hello from Troop 934’s Popcorn Kernel, Matt Love!

It is officially Popcorn Fundraising OPEN SEASON.

I’m looking forward to discussing Popcorn with Parents & Scouts at Monday night’s Court of Honor.

Ahead of that, please read these key updates:

–     Your Scout should have brought home (1) Popcorn Sales Sheet & (1) Peanut Sales Sheet from last week’s meeting.  This is where “door to door” sales are registered.  Please ask him to show them to you.  I will have more at the meeting.

–     At Monday’s Court of Honor I will raffle a $100 cash prize!  Scouts earn 1 entry for a sale on the sales sheet (someone at home or a neighbor) and 3 additional entries for a sale on the sales sheet to a registered school teacher or coach!  Make sure your Scout is in the game this weekend and Monday at school.

–     The Camp Masters popcorn portal is your starting place for online sales.  This is a great sales method to reach family, friends, and coworkers.  Each of you was sent a login email from “Camp Masters Customer Service” for easy portal access.

–     At Monday’s Court of Honor I will give each Scout with at least one online sale a gift card!  How to participate: Log in to Camp Masters, click “Promote Yourself Online,” then enter an email address to which Camp Masters will send his personal popcorn page.  It also gives you the option to copy his personal popcorn page address for distribution on social media.  One online sale by Monday night gets you in the game!

I look forward to celebrating with you and your Scouts Monday night.

Nantahala River Trip

Troop 934 will be going back to the Nantahala River September 13-15 for our ever popular white water rafting trip. We will leave Friday, September 13 from the Mt. Tabor Methodist lower parking lot and will return Sunday, September 15 in the afternoon.

There are a limited number of spots for this trip so please sign up early at the link below. We will HAVE to have at least seven (7) adult leaders to serve as river raft guides to make this trip possible. Don’t worry if you don’t have any river rafting experience. We will train you on how to guide a boat. Ravens are welcome on this trip but priority will be given to older Scouts so there is a separate sign up for Ravens. If we have space, then we will take as many Ravens as we can to fill up all spots in order of when they signed up.

We will be staying in a lodge building with 8 bunkbeds per room and each has a private bathroom so all you will need to bring is bedding or a sleeping bag and towels.

There may be a possibility of ziplining on Saturday afternoon after the rafting but we will not know that until much closer to that day. This will be an added cost if you want to zipline.

Cost of this trip is $75 plus ziplining and lunch on Sunday on our return. Sign up here.

Please contact Lee Danhauer if you have any questions about this trip. This will fill up fast so register as soon as possible.

OA ORDEAL WEEKENDS – ORDEAL I IS THIS WEEKEND, AUG 16-18!

Two quick changes to yesterday’s email:

  1. Mary Walker will be cooking fajitas for our lodge chapter on Friday evening for anyone who would like to eat upon arrival at CRK. She will be cooking at Crazy Horse campsite. Only scouts and leaders who do not want fajitas should bring food to eat on the way.
  2. Registration ENDS at 8pm. The website incorrectly says 9pm.

OA ORDEAL WEEKENDS – ORDEAL I IS THIS WEEKEND, AUG 16-18!

For all Troop 934 OA members and Ordeal Candidates, this weekend is Ordeal Weekend I at Camp Raven Knob.  For those who cannot make it this weekend, you have the option of attending Ordeal II on September 6-8.

The troop will be providing bus transportation to CRK for this weekend’s Ordeal I.  We will depart MTUMC promptly at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 16, and we will return at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 18.  If you would like to ride with us, please arrive for an on-time departure wearing Class A uniforms and bring a bag dinner to eat on the way up.  If you arrive after 6pm, you will need to provide your own transportation to CRK. For those planning to drive themselves, you must arrive at the CRK dining hall during the registration window between 7pm and 9pm.

Note that this is not a Troop 934 event and Ravens are not eligible to attend.  All OA members and candidates should have received an email directly from Wahissa Lodge to register for one of the two Ordeal weekends.  If you have not already done so, you may still register here.  Participating in one of the ordeal weekends within 18 months from the date of your election is necessary to secure your membership. The lodge website provides more details on the Ordeal Weekend, including a list of things you’ll need to bring (and things you’ll not need).

Most importantly, you should bring the following:

  • $65 Registration fee (if not paid online at registration – includes meals, Ordeal sash, Lodge Dues, Brotherhood membership and other items that enhance your Ordeal experience)
  • Extra money for the Wahissa Lodge Trading Post (optional)

Welcome Back to Scouts Cook-Out

Parents and Scouts:

Please join us on Monday, August 5th at 7:00 p.m. for our annual Welcome Back to Scouts cookout at Leinbach Park!  Pizza and drinks will be provided by the Troop, and we will hold SPL elections. Wear your Class A, but bring a t-shirt for volleyball.

See you there!

Welcome our new unit: Venturing Crew 934!

We are excited to announce the creation of a new BSA unit at Mount Tabor United Methodist Church this fall.  Venturing Crew provides older youths with an opportunity for further development and follows the ALPS model, emphasizing Adventure, Leadership, Personal Growth, and Service.  Crew 934 will be co-ed and open to youths age 16 to 20 years old.  Existing scouts must have achieved Life rank through their BSA troop.  The Crew will meet Monday nights at 7:00 pm, the same time as Troop 934.  Venturing is designed to be a more flexible, youth-led experience focused on high adventure.  For registered members of Troop 934, there is no additional cost to join Crew 934.  Please contact Bryan Scott or Lee Danhauer for more information.

What is Venturing?

The Venturing program emphasizes four main areas known as the A-L-P-S model:

Adventure – Mentoring, leading, and participating in crew-led adventures.

Leadership – Ongoing leadership development through training, mentoring, and hands-on leadership.

Personal Growth – Goal-setting in support of personal growth.

Service – Leading and participating in community service.

Scouting America aims to build character, develop citizenship and foster personal fitness. The Venturing program uses the components listed below to meet those aims:

Leadership and Mentoring – Venturers are given opportunities to learn and apply proven leadership skills. A Venturing crew is led by youth officers. Training courses, such as the Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews, uses experiential learning to teach Venturers how to lead effectively. Once Venturers have led several activities, they are asked to then mentor the other leaders in their crew.

Group Activities and Adventure – Venturers work within teams on everything they do. Their success is dependent on the interaction and cooperation of all, preparing Venturers for their future careers and paths.

Recognition – Venturing includes an optional awards program that acknowledges and recognizes our youth for their progress through Venturing’s four main areas of emphasis (ALPS).

Adult Association – Adults serve to advise the youth as they plan events and make decisions, while ensuring the program remains youth-inspired and youth-led. This partnership provides our youth with essential connections and lessons that will prove useful in their future paths.

Ideals – Venturers are expected to know and live by the Scout Oath and Law, ideals of Scouting created to inspire a culture of servant leadership, both inside and outside of Venturing.

Group Identity – Venturers are not asked to conform to a set uniform. Instead, they have the opportunity to create their own standards for attire at their events and meetings, as they see fit.

Service – Venturers serve their local and distant communities through personal and group service as the crew plans activities and individuals make progress through the Venturing awards program

The Venturing Motto: Lead the Adventure
