Scout Sunday is a MAJOR EVENT FOR ALL Troop 934 Scouts and Adult Leaders to attend this Sunday, February 25th at Mount Tabor UMC.
At the 11:00 am Church service, our congregation is celebrating our Scouts and Adult Leaders and recognizing our highly successful Scout program.
- Scouts and Leaders need to wear their Class A uniform and plan to arrive in the Welcome Center at or before 10:30 am where we will assemble and walk into the sanctuary to reserved pews prior to the start of the 11:00 am Church service.
- Scout Sunday is also our annual ‘Scouting For Food’ high priority Community Service Project of our Scouts and congregation for Maple Springs UMC Food Pantry. The food drive will start at 8:30 am until 12:00 pm (noon).
We ask all our Scouts and Leaders to bring a bag(s) of food with them on Sunday.
The volunteer Food Pantry Director advises their most critical priority needs are:
- Breakfast items such as cereal, cereal bars and pop tarts.
- Crackers such as saltines, ritz crackers, nabs and cheese crackers.
- Condiments like ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, salad dressing and BBQ sauces
- shelf ready-to-serve juices
- cake mixes & cake icing, brownie mix, cookies
- non-perishable food in cans or boxes, can potatoes, toothpaste, dish soap,
- paper towels, toilet paper, laundry detergent, manual can openers.
After Church service is over, we plan to finish loading food in the trailer and leave to deliver a very large amount of food to the Food Pantry about 3 miles from the Church. We need Scouts and Leaders to go with us to unload the food at the Food Pantry and place on shelves. We want our Scouts to experience the mission and work at the Food Pantry. Once done, we plan to return to the Church parking lot between 1:30 and 2:00 pm for their ride home.
Scouts that signed-up for assigned duties at our Troop meeting this past Monday night should receive a reminder on Friday of their assignment and arrival time.
If you have any questions, please call or text Steve Kelley, Assistant Scoutmaster at 336-399-4040 or Shannon Settlemeir at 336-692-4519.

For scouts (parent/guardian of scouts):
1. On February 15th, you should receive an email from BSA about paying your yearly BSA dues.
2. Note that BSA dues and Troop 934 dues are separate payments. Troop dues will be collected at a later date.
3. Please let us know if you do not receive the renewal email. This could be due to:
- An incorrect or out-of-date email address.
- Your renewal may not be due based on the date you joined BSA. For example, if you joined BSA in September 2023, your dues will be collected from BSA in September 2024.
4. Payments are made:
- Online via the emailed link directly to BSA with a personal credit card.
- In person at the BSA council office at 6600 Silas Creek Parkway.
- The troop will not accept payments.
5. Note that you do not need to pay the invoice if you plan to use Medicare benefits. Please speak to Chad Marion (willpowr@me.com) to assist with this process.
For Adult leaders and College Scouter Reserve (anyone over 18 years old):
1. You will receive an email to renew your membership on February 15th, as noted for scouts above.
2. Your YPT MUST be current before you can renew your membership.
3. The YPT system takes up to 48 hours (sometimes longer due to platform delays) to update with the membership renewal platform. Please do not wait to complete your training!

Mandatory Shakedown TONIGHT
If you are attending the winter backpacking trip, please note that there is a mandatory shakedown this evening. The trip packing party is also this evening.
BSA National Dues
Parents and Adult Leaders, please be on the lookout starting 15th February for an email from BSA Nationals. This email is your renewal dues invoice from the BSA; it contains an online payment link which MUST be used to pay national dues. We do not yet know what email address the BSA will use to send the invoice from but please know that the invoice is real. Online payment via the link sent via email by the BSA using your personal credit card is the ONLY way to pay UNLESS a family is using Medicare benefits to pay dues (if that is the case please do NOT pay online but come see us). Unlike years past Troop 934 will NOT be collecting cash and sending it to nationals on your behalf. Also, please note the BSA National invoice does not include Troop 934 dues which will be invoiced via Square later in the year. Finally, please know that last week we scrubbed the system and updated the “Parent/Guardian” email addresses for Scouts to the address we have been using to send Square invoices; we also reviewed the adult leader list.
Adult Leaders (including College Scouter Reserve i.e., anyone currently age 18 or higher), please know (1) you must be current on YPT training in the system BEFORE you can renew (pay) online, (2) it takes 24-48 hours for the YPT system to communicate with the membership renewal system and (3) the membership system still has a glitch that can incorrectly show a leader as still needing YPT; this glitch must be manually overridden by OHC staff.
We know there will be questions about this new system and process; you should ask them. For example, there are a few new Scouts and Leaders (i.e., those who joined or re-joined Scouting after 31st March 2023) who will NOT be getting an invoice this month but rather will be getting an invoice on their 12-month anniversary. On our side we will be monitoring the system weekly for payment status updates. We WILL be chasing you for payment — if you do not pay by the deadline (which we think is 31st March) you will be dropped from the BSA’s active membership and have to rejoin later in order to participate in Troop 934 activities.
